Counter

Once again I have added a counter to the blog. If you scroll way down to the bottom you will see a little bitty multi-colored box. It's just under the TS Elliot quote. Click on the box and you will see our stats. They are small because we're not advertising.

Please, please do not change the template, this kills the counter. You may go into the template and add or delete anything you want, just don't go to the section that says "pick new."

Now that I've said that, is the basic scheme of the template what we want? Do we like the colors? Do we like the basic design. If not check out some of the other templates and see if anything else catches your eye. I'm happy to add the counter coding once more if we decide on something else.

All of this is gearing up to ask if we want to go public. We've been doing some good blogging, and we're writing some good stories, posting some good outside articles/pictures. I think it's a pretty dern good blog, actually. Not a webzine yet, but a fine blog.

I'm thinking about making it a little more public. If we get a few outsiders we could create some good discussion. The easiest way would be to roll through sites like BlogExplosion. I use this on my blog some, and it definitely brings in traffic. If the top article is interesting it will definitely bring in more comments too.

If we all say yes, we can each set up an account with BE, or any of the similar sites. The way they work is you surf various other blogs to earn credits. These credits then get cashed by visitors coming to your site. With as many of us as there are we could easily earn tons of credits in very little time. It would be easy to do at work, simply let it be in the background, and periodically click a link to browse some more.

Yada yada, just a thought.

If we do this, we'll probably want to kill the more personal stuff. Definitely keep full names and any real personal info out. It's up to the individual on whether or not you want to post detailed accounts of your last probe.

Thoughts? Desires? Hateful diatribes?

I like! I already have a BE account, too. Thanks for adding the counter back in. It got nixed after we changed the template for Chuck's old eyes.

at first i was like YEAH! then i realize the personal stuff would have to stay out..

however, on my end, i tend to stay as personal as possible (youll notice when i mention my wife i call her "my wife" as much as possible) So i probably wouldnt change.. if someone posts something vulgure we can delete it... sure, why not, go for it.

I'll continue to not mention names and crap but I do enjoy the ability to talk about things that are really going on in our lives without prying eyes but I really don't care so long as no one starts to curtail their responses because someone might be looking over their shoulder.
Do what ever I'm going to continue to be as opinionated as I ever an.

Realize that we are already on a public space. Anybody can already read the things we blog.

The positives of getting more traffic would be:

1. More conversation: more eyes reading our stuff would create more points of view. Other folks from around the world could chime in with infromation. Since thisis our blog we could also ban annoying or hateful people at will.

2. More exposure: A few of us have written reviews, or interesting posts. As a semi-writer it is nice to have more folks reading your own stuff.

3. More cool stuff: We're all fond of weird sites with video, pictures, or text. More folks visiting could post more interesting links.

That's pretty much it. If we don't want any of this, then we can keep the blog semi private.

There really isn't an issue with talking about personal stuff. Lots of bloggers do daily journal type writings. Its really up to each of us. If you don't mind other eyes reading your story about how your day went, then post it.

We need to keep personal information off of the blog anyways, so adding more eyes wouldn't really change that.

So, let's get some yeas or neys on this. If we all dig it, I'll post info on how to get the traffic.

might as well publicly invite folks to our world if we get overwhelmed we can scrap it and start a new one.
