Chrysalis

Is it just me, or does something seem to be occuring on a global scale? I don't know why I feel this way, but I feel a change coming soon, in a big way. For some reason, the world seems to me to be morphing economically, intellectually, and societally. I think it's just me. It probably has something to do with the current events, but I felt this way long before this happened. The information infrastructure just seems to be getting broader and stronger and more necessary. It's exciting and scary at the same time. Having so much interaction and interconnection is great, but we are all becoming very dependent on infotech to fill a void. I have pet peeves like obnoxious people with cell-phones glued to their heads and using those loud PCS glorified walky talkies. However, infotech is allowing communication, education, and sharing like never before! What do y'all think about all this?

hard to say... recently, ive had this end-of-the-world feeling in my stomach that i have tried to shake. But as for everyone being connected, there is no going back. Only the strong will survive if communication goes down. Kids in high school chat with each other via text messaging on their cell phoens! you should see them type on those little buttons!

I actually didnt go to work today because i was getting so down about the news. I know I said i wasnt going to watch anymore, but i did see some today and it was good. congres passes a 10 billion dollar relief aid, Bush visited wich makes me feel better... it does make a difference seeing the pres of the USA in situations like that, and I saw military busses taking in millions or MREs and millions of gallons of water...

ANYWAY, i stayed home and actually worked too! I took control of a few users computers and fixed some problems, answered coutless emails, mowed the yard, and cleaned out our home office... Kept my mind off of the bad stuff... may go fishing before dinner.

Any of you guys remember when the dooms-dayers said the internet was nearly at its peak capacity. That was around 97 or 98. Look at it now. More countries and people are connected than ever before, the ave. connection speed is way higher than back then. Do you hear talk of pending doom still?

The way I see it every generation, thinks that the world is going to end in there time. It's natural...we look around and say, "God can't put up with this much longer."

Well, it's his clock not ours. When it's time it's time.

... I've been thinking these things too. I hope when the end of the world comes Charlie and I will be together. I've been kind of sad recently because I don't get to see him much. Like this whole week he works 9-5, I"m in school from 8-3, then work 6-10 and then homework, so when is there time for marriage, which should be my priority. I just feel like I'm gonna regret these two years.
But anywho, I always say I feel like technology has gotten to its peak. I mean, how much more can we develop before things start going downhill and life is taken over? I guess Jesus will come back before any kindof IROBOT stuff though, that's what I think. My Daddy says his grandmother always said the end of the world won't come in her life time, but it might in his.

OK...I wasn't being apocalyptic. I was speaking strictly from a societal/economic point of view. I just see things changing quickly around me and realize that it opens opportunities/challenges that we have never seen before. I'm waiting to see someething on the level of what the printing press and assembly lines have done in industrial history. I just see some invention coming that will make information/communication history! The PC and other info/comm tools already has in many ways, but I just feel more coming.

Yeah, I know this string is old too but hey why not. I’m not sure if the world is going to end but I try to remain as unconcerned about the change as possible. As far as society getting worse I sure as the world think it is but I don’t think it’s anything new. I think of the coliseum in Rome and am relieved we’re not there yet. I think that in our lifetime we’ll see a public murder or execution on TV. I mean check the web and you can find snuff films in various forms now. As far as sex stuff and vulgarity it’s hard not to miss. I think people are simply becoming desensitized by the world around them with the help of TV, video games, films and the internet. Sadly I think people can be reduced to a base or core mindset, sadly I think a good example of this has been shown to us again and again in New Orleans recently. Survival brings out the worst and best in people. Are times getting bad, maybe but you can undoubtedly say that times are changing. We’re becoming a harder society. Still I think there is hope for us all yet. It’s just going to take something really nasty to get us to realize what we could have rather than what we think we should have.
