All thumbs... and getting paid

I have managed to successfully not go to work all day yesterday and today. Well, actually I did go yesterday but aroun 5pm to reboot a server. Surprisingly, ive managed to get LOTS of work done having high speed at home and my laptop here.

Anyway, today I went fishing at 6AM (well, arrived at the pond at 6AM) at a pond all the guys at church love to get invited to... I was the lucky one this time.

I looked at my right thumb after all the bass I caught and realized their teeth sure can do a number on your thumb...

I wont bore anyone with bass pictures this time. We were catching them so fast we hardly had time to take photos...

Oops, how did that get here? Like the new facial hair design? "Joe Dirt" chops...

Getting up at 5AM has never been so easy...

Nice fish, my friend! Those little bas teeth can really tear up your thumb. You just need to fish more and build up some nice callouses on that thumb.

Catch more fish, I'm looking forward to the day when we hear about Jamison buying his first bass boat.

I still think you should try and become a fishing guide. You're entertaining, personable, and most importantly a good person who deserves to do what you enjoy.

Good catch by the way.

Since I've been posting with the appropriately measured gaps put in place by Heir Brewster why hasn't he added any comments to our little world?

i secretly thought everything bew said about the posting rules... i am refered to as a network nazi here at work, so one nazi reference is enough for me...

I'm good about writing, terrible about formatting. I think Brew may still be dealing with the watershed from his grandfather's passing. Not sure, though.

I’ve never heard of one exuding anal retentiveness as a form of grief but I’m sure open to the idea. I think that if that were to even happen to me my head would explode. I can be wound pretty tight on something.

I consider this blog a conversation more than something that requires formatting. I guess in person I’ll have to remember to give the responder of any given conversation the proper amount of time to formulate an answer before I start a new topic.

It's called compassion mullins, look it up. Jerk.

Sorry I haven't been writing much lately. I've just been really tired. I started to say burned out, but that's not really it, I am simply tired these days.

The work schedule has been really nutty and I've put in some extra hours, then I come home to cook dinner, take care of the wife and then I've been cleaning a lot. I've finally got the home unpacked mostly and looking like a place one would want to live.

I read my e-mails, but when it comes to actually writing something I've just not had the energy.

Sorry

A little anal retentiveness here. I even sometimes get irritated at the small, "I'm doing fine" posts.

The original idea of the blog was that it was a stepping stone to something quasi-professional. I already do quasi-professional/and really professional blog stuff elsewhere. Which makes me want to make Midnightcafe Discussions all the more professional.

It also stems from my name being associated with this. Not to be a prick, but my writing for blogcritics and Brewsters Millions is done in, I hope, a very professional manner. I have slight aspirations to do real writing in my future. Which makes me want to clean this site up from time to time.

Other people do read this site everyday. It aint many, but there are a few random. As can be seen from the ammount of spam, we hit on topics that are very searchable.

I'm slowly getting over some of the anal retentiveness as can be seen in a few recent "I'm doing fine" posts of my own.

But this aint e-mail, so there is no reason we shouldn't have basic formatting here.

im doing fine posts! lol...
yes, Brew. I am probably more anal than you in many ways. Not so much anal, but more obsessive compulsive.

i think there should be a diff between what gets posted and what gets emails.

While i hate the kind of emails that Di sent (survey) she is a doll for emailing it and not posting it to the blog. Thats the kind of judgement we should sue.

This is kind of how I lean, Jamison. Interesting stories, cool links and the like should go here, personal tidbits or thoughts can hit e-mail.

But that's just my opinion. I think a part of the blog to most was to get the large quantities of postings out of their e-mail box and somewhere non work related. For me I still get everything sent to my e-mail so it doesn't help.

At the moment, if the group continues to want to post everything here, I'm fine with it, but I'll still prod everyone to clean it up a bit.

i would go through the blog and give three examples of what a "email worthy" blog is, but it may hurt some feelings.

But, an easier way to do this is to have brew find 2 of MY blogs which should have been emails... or no blog at all... my feelings wont get hurt!

“Compassion… Look it up” followed by “jerk”, it that the reek of professionalism?

Yes the idea was that we should work on something quasi-professional in the hopes of doing something constructive with our God given abilities. All of this under the guidance of we’ll post interesting stories and what not along with being able to communicate without having to hit reply all day long.

Ultimately what’s lacking is direction. Brew when you review something you’ve got a course of action. Read book, write about book. Watch movie, write about movie. I am thrilled that you’re successful with something you enjoy. With your desires to write professionally writing is what you should be doing irregardless of the “hits” you get or what ever. If you want this to be something more than it is and have an ultimate vision of how your association to this blog needs to appear then you need to direct it to that end.

Formatting and spacing to ease ones reading is a wonderful suggestion and one that I am going to follow.

Writing to entertain someone outside of this circle of friends for me is not important. How anyone is doing is more important than counting hits and having this running commentary be a platform for anything outside of how my friends are doing.

When I find something interesting or have something interesting happen to me I post it like everyone else. If a story about a kid or my work is boring or unprofessional pardon me for freaking sharing…

If you want this blog to be something different tell us what you expect and want and give us an assignment to report on and we’ll do it because it could be fun.

On Oct 23rd I’ll be seeing String Cheese Incident and I plan on writing as good of a review as I can, still thank you btw. Until that time unless you hear other wise I’m doing fine.

in a nut shell I PERSONALLY feel like the bog should be used for most any bit of info, topic, or subject with the EXCEPTION of:

1) personal information, or truly private thoughts that you really dont want anyone but the guys and maybe their wives to read

2) forwarded emails... or the like, dont blog these...

3) "I had a good day today/weekend" topics, these are more emal-able in my opinion.

This blog posting I did (that we are replying to... my fishing) in MY opinion is a poor example of what is bloggable. There, i said it. I posted a poor blog. I think it's only saving grace is the fact that I have photos on. Thats the only think I think that lets if get by.

Ussually a poor blog can be saved with relavent photos since we all like seeing pics of each other since we seldom get to see one another.

And no one should get offended at this, but Diannas latest blog involving her weekend, on the offset, LOOKS to be what should be considered email material rather than blog material, BUT her subject about the dance club and her not drinking saves it by leaps and bounds because it is very conversationable and more topics can stem off of it (via drinking, dancing, if we have ever been to a dance club, etc)

Also, pictures of stubbs wife dropping-it-like-it-is-hot would have made the blog alot more entertaining.

Okay, that was inapropriate... but c'mon, all you guys were thinking it!!!

oh, and Brew has called me a jerk before too... I wouldn't take it TOO personally...

mullinz8 said...

I'm not trying to take things personally I'm just not sure what is blog appropriate.

The whole notion sounds silly to me.

Here's topic X, hum... Lines three, five, six, seven and twelve are more suited for an email rather than a blog.

No one use’s my real name (Carl) or anyone else’s. I not going to post that I had wild monkey jungle sex all weekend and all of its details on this blog (simply because I'd hate for Jules to find out, ha that's a joke) and I doubt anyone else is.

I doubt that the feds are going to use this site to track me down if I say that I'm smuggling heroin from Prosser, WA to Sneedville, TN using a highly trained pack of monkeys riding unicycles and I doubt that anyone else is for any other reason either.

I guess I don't see what the fuss is. I mean we've discussed intimate sexual subjects here along with various facets of politics, religion and faith but if we're too conversational it should be resolved to an email that my bosses have a better chance of snooping through than the random complete stranger who is brought here by chasing links?

I just thought the jerk line was too funny as professionalism was the theme of the following passage.

Mat Brewster said...

So, let me understand, Mullins. You can refer to me as a Nazi, but I'm not allowed to call you a jerk? Nice.

The professionalism, to me has more to do with the formatting and type of content, rather than fitting into a standard business profile or being worthy of the Times.

So a nice sarcastic Brewsterism of pleading for compassion while calling you a jerk at the same time, fits in perfectly.

But maybe that's me.

Mat Brewster said...

I also don't think we need any kind of what is bloggable guidelines here. It's a matter of making the blog interesting to anyone.

If it is only information that my group of friends will care about, why not e-mail it instead. If it could be interesting to the world at large, blog it.

It's not about hit points. But I thought the concept of the blog was to create something of interest to the public. That was the whole let's pull our creative juices together and make something idea.

I just don't want someone in this circle to feel like they shouldn't jot a quick note because it's not considered blog worthy.

Jerk, nazi aren't we all just bastards?

love you Brewster...
