Been a while
Well, I just recently queried a publisher about Runaway Swimmer and actually got a request for manuscript from them! The publisher is called Publish America. I have queries and manuscripts out with different folks at the moment. Will it get published? Y'all can start a betting pool if you want. (Addendum: Publish America is really a vanity press. I recommend NOT using them after researching them. I certainly won't. See further posts to this string for more info).

Just keep it moving and something will hit it. But just think of it this way many people just sit and think about writing and you've actually got one on paper. You're miles ahead of a lot of folks.
OK...I am definitely NOT going with these folks!

Looks like a scam. You gotta be careful! But, I do have some queries and manuscripts with some good, reputable pubs, so maybe it'll work out...
Thanks, Mullins! I appreciate the encouragement amidst the copious rejection from most publishers. It comes with the territory, but it teaches you patience and tenacity. Just glad my wife sent tme that link on Publish America! What a bunch of jerks!
POD publshers aren't all that bad, well some of them anyway. A savy writer could get the book set up with one of those companies and do his/her own advertising on the net, etc and actually come out on top of the game.
However, I am sure that it was disheartening to learn that this guy, who acted like a normal publisher and was interested in your work, was really just a vanity publisher.
Just think, you could pay him to publish your book. doesn't that sound marvelous?
Hang in there Sip.
love the pic brew....
just remember sip... and i think you told me this... you should NEVER have to pay for an agent or to get published... THAT is a scam
Awesome! New Brew pic! Yeah, I wasn't aware at first that this was a vanity press. But, I always check them out before I submit anything. I also ref my Writer's Market before doing anything to make sure they are legit. I had just gotten this email at work and thought it was pretty cool, but was gonna check them when I got home. In any case, I have encountered several of these already and they are all scams. I just stick to my Writer's Market and the exhortation I shared with Jamison. "Never pay a pub or agent. They get you money. If they ask for money, don't give it or you'll never see it again!"
Oh, and I agree, you shouldn't pay to get published. For folks who have the cash, and can't find a real publisher, vanity publishing can be cool. But it is just that, VANITY publishing.
Oh, yeah a lot of them are scam city. But a good vanity publisher will actually edit and set your book (for a price of course) and then they will set it up for publishing (on demand of course). so you do get a product for your $$. I guess I defend them a little because they have one in Bloomington and I know some folks who work there. That company, at least, is legit.
Still, who wants to pay someone to publish a book for them? Much, much better to work the market and see if you can get a real publisher to do it.
Amen Brew. Yes, there are legit PODs. But, you have many walls in your way when trying to promote and market the book since you have no real book creds. If I had the money and the market, I would probably try it. But, that rarely or never happens. You're so right. Just gott keep pluggin, prayin, and hopin!
