Banking on a Story

There is a bank in Luverne where my Mom has worked for the last eleven years. About two years ago, there was an incident there with mold growing in the walls of the bank due to improper roofing on the flat top of the structure. Several people became ill from this toxic mold, and one lady even had congestive heart failure! The bank knew that something was up, but didn't shut its doors until OSHA came in and demanded it. Since then, they have been working in a trailer and using the downstairs drive-through and vault of the existing structure. This in itself is a major security issue since all money has to be taken back and forth between the bank and the vault. On top of all this, my Mom has a bad knee and even has a handicap tag for her car. Yet, she routinely has to walk across a busy parking lot to use the restroom and also has to walk up a long flight of stairs to get to the vault. When she or another of the employees transfers money to and from the vault, they have no security escort. It is a bad situation all around. I am thinking seriously about getting my Mom's permission to tip off the Montgomery Advertiser to this flagrant misuse of employees and facilities. This is the basic story, but there is much more.

YIKES!
That is scary... and I hope no possible theives are reading this blog and know where Luverne is...

OSHA needs to inspect your office.. my wifes sinus issues multiplied 10 fold when she started working there. I think there is mold there too.

There are probably more molds/allergens in work places than anyone cares to acknowledge. The mold in the bank is toxic and can actually kill you. My Mom and the other folks there were having bad headaches and breathing problems. It has been a real nightmare and they still haven't fixed the problem 22 years later!!! It just irks me and it has been very stressful for my Mom.

Ummm...2 years later that is...

Sip, you have to tell everyone you can about this. It's just wrong; they are taking advantage of every employee in that bank and the customers too. Call the local paper. If you can prove that they knew they were operating under a blatant health hazard then your mom could end up owning that silly little bank. Go shout it from the mountains.

I already emailed some info to the Montgomery Advertiser. I hope someone can help. They have been taking advantage of them for far too long.

The replies I received from the paper weren't great, but at least they are replying to me and looking at possible stories. I just have to get some attention focussed on this. My Mom and the other employees there have been suffering in an unsafe and unsecure environment for over 2 years now. That is unacceptable. Somethng's gotta give.

Montgomery advertiser probably doesnt want to ruffle feathers. Ill bet the owner of that bank chain gives lots of money to people that the paper cares about, advertising dollars, or junk like that.

Tell the AP, make it national

That might work...You are probably right. Of course, I didn't mention the name of the bank at all. Just a "bank in Luverne". But, they probably know what I'm talking about. I will see if I can contact someone in the Associated Press or Reuters or something.
