Hot Topic

Here is the Hot Topic essay that you guys helped me come up with. Feel free to add comments at the bottom, for they help boost my visibility on the site.

Language warning. The guys I wrote it with have foul tongues which like to curse, so if ye be offended by such things, BEWARE.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, and the first commenter on their now is the son of the Grateful Dead's drummer, or one of them anyhow.

Good article, Brew!

It looks like most folks agree that the way people use technology is sometimes bad.

One point someone brought up was that the technology itself isn't bad. People who misuse it are the bad part of it all.

Some people are just RUDE!

Good show old chap!

Good write up Brew.
Cripes you’re right that our little world of six friends and their wives would be nothing like it is without the gadgets and gizmo’s the world has provided us with while at the same time some people use them to shed the constructs of civility and have been reborn as self-important twits with a cyber chip on their shoulder.

Here is something that actually crosses my mind quite a bit. A few summers ago when a power station in Ohio triggered a switch to blow in Canada causing a massive power outage in NYC and chunks of the north east and American world considered panic. Electro magnetic pulses (EMPs) exist today though without the cool effects of The Matrix. So imagine what would happen if “something” were to send our lives “offline” Of the cans I surveyed most have a three year shelf life if that. I would instantly be without a job because TV is pretty useless without power. Jules if she could make it home safely after people tried to plunder her bank would be without a job because currency as we know it would be better for a cooking fire than purchasing. Jamison, Stubbs, Brewster, Chuck and I would guess Sipper though I can never remember how he’s saving the world this week would also be out of a job.

What would the world be like and how well do you think you could survive?
Interestingly enough the big networks are considering new shows based in a “post-apocalyptic” America, I guess the fall of this infant country is one several peoples mind.

It's no wonder that there are groups of people who would prefer anarchy over the system of "living" we all have today.

It's such a stress relief when I can escape technology and wrap myself in the peace of quiet and solemn simplicity.

Who gets to do this anymore? It's cherished, no doubt.

Hey, cool! A world where my primitive cloth-weaving skills would actually be useful!

Yeah, sorta like the post-apocalyptic world of The Matrix or something.

speaking of enjoying life with no technology, in 5 days, chuck, sip and myself will be doing so. Hopefully it will not be raining. Ive had a day that begs for my pipe today.

I mainly hate cell phones. Sure they do a lot of good, but man most cell phone people are as annoying as crap. Why is it that no one can just not answer a ringing cell phone?

Sometimes I think that though all this technology has connected the world, we've all been made a lot less sociable.

One time at a pub in France a bunch of us gathered. Within a few minutes almost everyone had there cells out text messaging someone and not paying a lick of attention to anyone at the publ

Yet another reason I don't have a cell phone. People have become so disconnected by becoming "connected". It's one of the strangest paradoxes I've seen.

Just let it ring, folks.

mmhmm, right, .... okay, .... yeah I can do that.... oh! hahaha! ok, ... no, I hav.... no really, I need to go... ok....mmhmmm (rolling my eyes), yeah, okay, well, I'll... yep, I'll call you later, ...mmhmm, buh bye...

Sorry, what were ya'll talking about?

I think the world has become so disconnected that vegitables are now using cell phones. 2 or 3 years ago I went to the pumpkin patch in Clanton, Alabama with a cell phone and left without it.

Some pumpkin is probably running up my minutes as we speak... makes me wanna take a knife to them...

Sounds like a Cinderella story to me...
