First Day

Well, I'll start by saying that my new work environment will not allow me to blog from work. It's all for the best, of course, but I'll miss having the amount of interaction I used to have.

On the other hand, I LOVE where I work thus far. I went in this morning and did some paperwork in the very building I used to work in. Then it was off to Gunter Air Force Base to see my boss and meet everyone.

When we finally got to the building, it looked like any other government building I've ever seen. But, inside it was a different story.

My boss, Bernie, took me to the "watch floor" first. It looked like something right out of NASA or some sci-fi flick that portrays a military watch floor. Everyone sat on tiers at lined-up workstations and looked on as information scrolled across huge, flatscreen TVs mounted to the walls. There were several different clocks to tell them what time it was in Japan, Germany, etc. It reminded me very much of where I worked up in Georgia, just way cooler.

After I met some folks and filled out paperwork, Bernie took me to my workspace. I was equally amazed, but in a different sort of way. The room struck me as serene. The carpet was a dark, calming green color, flecked with complimentary tones, the cubicle walls were sage with hints of black and there was a huge accent wall at the end that was the same, calming green color. Not only was the space colored perfectly, the lights, instead of beaming down garrishly on my head, were pointed toward the ceiling, causing a beautiful, dappled feel. On top of all that, I have a huge workspace with a large, L-shaped desk, 3, yes 3 separate computers, and an ergonomic chair my boss said cost over $350 (of course, everyone there has one!).

Everyone has been very nice and helpful and interested in my ideas for how to change their training environment. I'm looking forward to really digging in and getting started! I think I'm going to really enjoy this job.

Very cool Sip. I hope you continue to like it there. Are you going to be able to check the blog at home everyday, or will family things keep you away most of the time?

I'll use this space to update my job situation a little. I interviewed with three companies last week. I've already got one "no" response and am waiting on the others. In the meantime I will be doing some tax work with HR block. Pay is more decent than I expected and will help to run the unemployment longer if necessary.

Thank goodness Brew. Still am praying that you find a job, or at least get some hope and it looks like you have had some hope pushed your way.

Sip, the Watch Floor sounds REALLY COOL! It is too bad you couldnt get a full office, but it sounds like you have a cubical that is cooler than most peoples offices! Glad you enjoyed it and hope to be able to lunch with you in the near future!

If Ryan is reading, wouldnt mind a bit of a job update from your end!

Jamison, you need to come work with us, man. It's a very cool work place and I'm pretty sure you could get a spot there, no problem.

I'll be checking the blog at home. Glad to hear that you're getting interviews and making some headway, Brew. We're still praying for y'all. Just keep a positive atitude, my friend. That counts for a lot.

Sip; If you know of anyone I can give my resume to, let me know.
As you know, I have a "plan" here to see if I can work from home 2 days a week. I have presented it to the Headmaster and he isnt too hip on the idea. If he doesnt go for it, I just assume work 5 days a week at a place that pays more than work here 5 days a week and get paid less...

Sipper it sounds really cool. Please let me know when you find the room holding W.H.O.P.E.R, if it asks you if you want to play a game say “No” and tell your supervisor. I’ve got enough going on without worrying about a nuclear holocaust. Then again the idea of a nuclear holocaust being caused by someone in Alabama might make the funny papers.

Brew way to go working with the tax folks. Though you are supporting a criminal act by a privately held corporation raping the American populace of its hard earned money at least you’re getting some cash out of the deal.

Well Sipper I’ll let you know that I recently went into the conference room and took a really comfortable chair that might have cost someone 74 bucks!

Sipper you sound like me promising folks jobs at the radio station in Monekytown. Jamison and Brew, I’m still holding out for the right station, hold on a little bit longer.

You guys keep holding tight it’ll all be ok.

Mullins and his promises based loosely on a perverted woman who gets thrills off seeing college aged boys wearing dog masks...

Jamison, email your resume to me at my gmail or hotmail account.

I'll take it to work and hand it directly to the guy in charge of hiring. You might even get me a referral bonus!

I mentioned your name to the guy you used to work with today, too. He recalled you fondly. I'm sure he'll vouch for you, too.

Dog masks, from the days when that’s all it took.
