How 'bout that?

Well we are officially moved in, and we are in pretty good shape. I now only have a garage to organize (I managed to fit my car in it today...yaaaah!). The rest of the house has little things that need to be done, but in all it is about as organized as this temporary abode will become.

Oh, this is funny in a strange sort of way. I've had no second interviews on any of the jobs I've interviewed for in the past 8 months (I interviewed for about 10 or 12). Well, I had a phone interview on Monday of last week (my last day at AP) with the Okaloosa County Health Dept (OCHD-a state job even though it's a county department). Today, I'm dropping the little one off for an introductory partial day (11-5) at daycare. Suddenly, I get a call from them asking me to come for a second interview. I ask the lady if I can call her back because it's a bad time. She's like sure they really want to talk to you again. Here's what weird. I know both times I sounded like I could care less about the job; I had pretty much decided I wanted to stop looking and just work on my freelance business. With all the other places I interviewed, I was generally excited and overly cheery trying to impress the employers. If I have future interviews, I'm going to take a who cares attitude. Apparently it works.

Chuck...
I can safely say that EVERY JOB I have ever gotten was from me not looking from them. Job hunting is over-rated. If God wants you to have it, He doesn't need you to look for it most of the time.

Glad you are settled in. Got an email address? If so, email us all with it.

FYI, thanks for the letter you gave me.

Glad you're back, Chuck.

Glad you got a second interview, too!

Are you going to look into it? If so, prayers are happenin'.

In any case, thanks for the card and everything. We miss y'all!

Um, yeah you should keep looking. I'm not sure God generally drops jobs into your lap.

Hope the second interview goes well. Things do work in very odd ways sometimes.

Wow! This is great!

We had some kind of dry spell for a while. Glad to see more people posting again!

Jamison...You're welcome.

Sip...You're welcome.

Brew...You're wel...(oh, sorry got carried away)

I will be going on the interview. I'm not daft, but I don't know about searching for future stuff with other companies. I've gotto think about it for a little while...Find my zen and all.

E-mail address yes, but I don't know how long I'll have it (connectivity issues). I have a knology one through AP still. I may get Jim to stop popping it at AP and pop it myself. So, for the time being use charlesm ( at symbol thingy) knology.net

Ah, good...

I still have that one in my address book!

We'll say prayers on the job/search/moving/freelance/etc. fronts...

You're doing well blogging, my friend!

That's the attitude that'll hook a guy too. Worked on Josh. ;)

Well, sort of...

I was just gonna leave you alone and then you came home from school for the summer and you looked so good in your little Ally Macbeal dress with that long, red hair...

I just couldn't not ask you out, preacher's daughter or not...

ive had jobs dropped in my lap many a time Brew. Some I took, some I didn't. Job hunting has maybe landed me one job.

It's kind of like dating. If you act like you are head over heels the girl isn't interested. If you act like you don't care one way or the other, she is dying to be with you.

So you're saying that Charles shouldn't go out looking for a job, but rather sit on his butt all day watching TV?

I know you're not really saying that, its just the impression I'm getting from these comments

I'm the opposite, every job I've ever had (with the exception of a few temp jobs my mom gave me) I've had to look for.

bigsip said...

I don't think it's necessarily about the way you act as much as it is whether or not the girl/interviewer sees CONFIDENCE in you.

I've never had a shortage of confidence in myself, so I have never shied away from asking a girl out or being myself in an interview.

When you take the "aloof" approach, it appears that you have enough confidence to take on the world and girls/employers are attracted to that.

Job hunting gets your name out there, yes, but I also think that if God wants you to have a new job (or have anything), He can bring it to you.
My last job was going under, i mean, if I stayed there another month I would have been jobless, and no unemployment check because the owner didn't pay taxes or file them. He was messed up. I wasn't even job hunting honestly. I mean, what did I have experience to do? Plus Lairssa was working and making okay money at the time. Sure I prayed for a job, but made little or no effort to find one. I was lazy.
Then one day, the person in my current position got preggy and told me she recommended me for her job when she left.
So yes, God dropped a job in my lap.
In fact, I wasn't looking for my last job either, and the preacher at the time called me at my work at Alltel and asked me if I wanted to pull computer and phone cable for a friend of his for $12 an hour (much more than I was making at the time).
Yes, it was dropped in my lap.
I know God does alot, and that most of it is a result from things we do, but I have grown alot more confident in God doing things out of the clear blue sky.
I know Brew isn't saying He isn't capable of it, but I am saying that He entirely is capable of it and does it.

Bottom line, congrats Chuck!

Indeed...

I wasn't saying he doesn't either.

The job I have now was dropped in my lap, so to speak. I still had to interview, but had Jamison's wife not recommended me...

My previous job came out of my association with them through the Air Force.

Rachel's AP connections came through Chuck, of course...

God leads our lives, no doubt.

But, I think our faith and confidence in Him and ourselves helps a great deal, too...

I wouldn’t consider those dropped in your laps. It’s called networking. You’ve developed relationships with people and those people have presented you with opportunities. Sip, in your case it looks like those people knew you were looking for work and helped you out. Jamison the people you knew knew your character and were trying to help you out.

Certainly God is a part of all this. Every good things comes from Him and what not, but there is a big difference in doing absolutely nothing to help yourself while at the same time expecting Him to give you something big, and God blessing you while you’re trying to find a job or whatever.

And of course, ultimately all we are providing is personal anecdotes, which isn’t really “proof” of anything. My personal bit is that I’ve always had to look hard for a job. I’ve also been in a lot of situations where I was jobless. All were my choice, I moved to a new area without anything. All of them have also worked out, but I certainly busted my looking. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever got a job from answering an ad, and applying. Most of my gigs have come from temp services and employment agencies. But even those I had to go to, talk to the people and apply.

bigsip said...

Well, either way you look at it, God takes care of us.

I find that extremely comforting...

I'm now inspired to keep searching...Careerbuilder her I come.

Oh the interview went great. They showed me the "server room." I was sweet. I'll get a blackberry if I'm hired and will have part in hiring an underling.

bigsip said...

I'm so glad you were sweet...

Looks like it helped!

Bet that BB will be sweet. Just make sure you don't hire a sweet assistant.

JS said...

So next time I need a job I should ask God: "Dear Lord, please give me lots of friends and associates so that I may tell them that I want a job, and please elt them come across certain people who are hiring that they are friends with, and please let them mention my name, and please let them come abck to me and tell me that someone is willing to hire me..."

I'd rather just say "God, give me a job" and when it happens without any effort from me, I'll say God dropped it in my lab... takes less time to say.

Oh and thanks for the job offer chuck, I could use more money, but the move isnt in the cards for me right now.
