Ex-coC Support Group

To make a long story short, I went online to Wikipedia and looked up church of Christ. The write-up they had was actually very accurate. They also included links to online coC resources, including Apologetics Press.

However, one of the related groups under the Former Members and Internal Critical Views section led to this website.

I just thought I'd pass it on as an interesting study in why the coC is losing people. Maybe we can glean some good info from it. Some of it's not so good, I'm sure. But, it's interesting to see why some folks have left.

I'm still reading through this site, but this "characteristic" of the Church is totally off-base.

"Each congregation is led by elders nominated by the congregation, and appointed by the preacher."

Where did they get that idea??? I've never heard of giving the preacher that much power.

Are you talking about the Wikipedia site or the "support group" site?

I didn't remember seeing it on Wikipedia...

But, I wouldn't doubt it...

OK, I see it now.

Odd how Wikipedia is more accurate than the "support group" site.

In any case, I thought it was an interesting start for a conversation about kindness and acceptance in the church...

Opens the floor for some intersting questions...

Yeah, there are some interesting arguments in there about stuff I've questioned. One of my pet peeves has been sermons that use "unauthorized fire" and touching the ark of the covenant to say we shouldn't use instruments and such.

There's also a message board for current coC'ers to discuss the issues they bring up.

Might be for the International Church of Christ (Boston Movement).

here's a link to their bulletin board discussion on AP. It gets pretty nasty so take your chill pills. It definitely seems like a site full of very hurt and bitter folks.

I don't see how anyone can get angry at AP.

I think most of those folks have some deep issues.

Well it is a site dedicated to people who have left the church. People who slipped away probably wouldn't post, but pissed off lads will. Plus they don't let anyone post anything positive about the church on that board. So the anger steam rolls.
