Filmmaking eBay Style

Just thought I'd throw this out there; it looked like something some of you would be interested in. "The eBay Model Goes to the Movies"

Apparently, Google has created a new site on which anyone can sell video or film, auction-style, with ratings.

Hey, can anybody fix the ugliness of this post?

bigsip said...

I'll try...Cool post, baby!

There you are...

For future reference for everyone:

If you hit return and insert your pic above the text, you're more likely to end up with a pretty, appropriately wrapped post.

I wonder if this will work. This might help get more movies made, but distribution costs alone run way high.

to pull a little Josh here I just got an invite to start writing for pay! Very, very small pay, but still a few extra bucks for my little writings is a good place to be.

I'll have further details once I get the ball rolling.

Woohoo, Brew!

Is this connected to your blogging? Hope it goes well, my friend. Ususally, writing gigs start off very small. But, if you stick with it, you might find yourself making a living from it one day! Hope it goes well!

Well I didn't say much because I didn't know much. What I know now is the site is Associated Content and now that I'm a member I can post content on just about anything. when I post it actually goes to some editors who make decisions on what to pay.

My friends says the average is like five bucks a pop, but sometimes its more if the content will draw a lot of viewers and sometimes its nothing.

The friend has been on it a few months and has made about a grand.

Like I said, it aint much, but it sounds interesting.

Interesting article that sort of goes along with your "gay agenda" blog post, Brew.

Found it on that writing site you posted.

Looks like Elton John has something to say...

OK, another comment on job stuff:

My old High School band director (now the high school Principal) just called me and practically offered me a job as an English teacher at the school!

I plan to go interview at 10 AM next Monday!

bigsip said...

Only thing is, that would mean us moving to Luverne. It would be great in some ways and awful in others.

We don't want to leave our church family behind (specifically Jamison and Larissa).

I've been praying for several choices. Now that I'm getting them, I feel kind of stressed about the whole thing. It's nice to have so many options, but I really don't know what to do...

Y'all pray we make the right decision.

JS said...

Wow... teaching at your old school. That would be nice, but the move would suck. Then again, it'd give larissa and I more of an excuse to visit the country more often.

Heck, yall go down there 2 times a month anyway it seems.

keep us posted. We will worry about yall moving and be sad about it when it happens, but not till then.

My first response is "are you nuts?"

You've often proclaimed that you are now living in the house you want to die in. Are you really prepared to remove that claim and plant roots in another place over a job that honestly you aren't really sure that you want as a career?

Losing ones job is scary stuff, and it is easy to up and grab whatever is offered simply to have a job. But take it from one who has done a lot of job hopping, hold off on that and wait for something you know is right.

That may be totally sideways as you may really want to be a HS teacher. That may then be worth the move.

How far away is Luverne again? Is it possible to commute?

God does answer prayers, but in His own time. Right now I'm freaking out and being a little jealous of all your offers, but I know He'll proved for me in His own time. he'll do the same for you.

lilsip said...

We may have to move to a smaller house anyway, if the new job pays less than his current one.

bigsip said...

Yeah, what she said...

Also, I have practically been offered the job, but I also have practically been offered 2 other jobs (one at Lee HS and one at Northrop Grumman) so I have some choices open. I just have to wait for the offers, etc. and see what's best.

So, we aren't going anywhere yet. I also have the interview for a counseling/teaching job with Telamon Corp tomorrow.

As far as education as a career goes, Id LOVE it. I just don't know yet whether or not I can afford it.

Indeed, God shall provide in His good time. But, I will not overlook the boats and helicopters if I'm stuck on top of my house in a raging flood...

When someone "practically" offers you the job, get it in writing, otherwise, they may be blowing the same smoke up your butt as they are other applicants.

Like my wife's employee told her yesterday, a job he applied for told him that it is pretty much garanteed he would have a job after their contract ends. When he asked to get that in writting (Smart move), they couldnt do it. They needed an employee and will tell people ANYTHING "off the record" to get them to come on. Larissa has heard this phrase about 20 times in the past year from a few other companies trying to get her to work for them "More pay, less work"... yeah, right.

Remember; places looking to hire someone need YOU to take the job as bad as you need the job.

brew, Lu-vegas is about 45 minutes from thier current home (an hour from ours :( )

It may have been Sips plan to stay in that house till death, but life doesnt follow the plans of men. On one hand, having plans is a good thing in life, on the otherhand, they need to have room to give way because life pretty much makes its own plans, despite ours. Plus, if he is forced to take a lower paying job or NO JOB, he may be forced to take the lower paying job and be forced into a smaller home. All the dreams and desires in the world wont convince the mortgage comany to let them live there for free.

bigsip said...

I didn't address the questions Brew...sorry:

Luverne is where my parents live, sort of. They live out in the sticks outside of town.

Luverne proper is about an hour from where we live now.

I couldn't commute that far for long.

I'd love to teach English for the right price and in the right place.

Luverne would be ideal in that it's a small town, I know most of the teachers, our boys could get as good an eduucation there as in any Montgomery Magnet school, very low crime, etc.

Sucks because we'd have to leave some friends and family and church family behind.

I believe we'll end up staying here, but I know God's plan like I know neurosurgery...I know it exists and works, but have no idea what it is yet.

bigsip said...

The best laid plans of mice...

Yeah, NONE of these jobs are in the bag. I have some very strong interest from several people, the storngest of which is my old HS.

The principal said that the board is meeting Monday and he could tell me whether I could have the job the next day.

Funny thing is, all of the jobs I've gotten interviews for have happened almost immediately. I guess it's an end-of-year hiring spree or something!

bigsip said...

Brew, don't know if you're interested, but under the No Child Left Behind Act, you should be considered a "Highly Qualified" individual to teach English.

I'm sure you have at least as many credits in English as I do.

Just a thought.

JS said...

Sip, your argument for living in Luverne are convincing.

As much as larissa and I want yall to stay in town (Dare I say yall are the only reason central alabama is a good place for us to live?) dont use us in a decision making process.

IF you are offered the Luverne job, I think you should give it alot of prayer time. Dude, if it were me, and I could move to Luverne doing what I want to do, and had access to all sorts of fishing ponds, and my kids could grow up the way country boys should grow up, AND away from crime, I would be tempted.

You know whats best, dont consider your friends here locally in this decision... unlesswe mean that much to ya :)

Big stuff, only you can make the final decision.

Mat Brewster said...

And I certainly didn't mean to imply that it was a bad choice. Obviously I don't know all the ends and outs of your situation.

My warning stands though. Give it all lots of thought and prayer. Too many times I've been unemployed and got desperate and took the first thing to come my way only to hate and regret it.

And tell me more about this no child left behind deal.

bigsip said...

My dear friend...

You and Larissa are a couple of the biggest reasons we enjoy being where we are. Of course, there are Rachel's parents and Dalraida, too.

Plus, I'm still interviewing for a position tomorrow that could potentially pay more than what I make now and I'd be doing something I enjoy!

In any event, we are going to be patient and make the best possible choice.

Again, I'd love being in Luverne for many reasons, but Rachel would have a really hard time adjusting. I hope she doesn't mind me saying so, but she doesn't make friends easily (introvert) and she has just now after 2 years made a couple of nice friends she trusts and can talk to...other than Jamison and Larissa, of course.

Anyway, we shall see as matters unfold.

JS said...

Eh, my wife is the same way. She got her haircut by the guy who cuts my hair and I had to give her "topics of conversation" before she went, because I know she just sits silently when she gets her haircut or nails or whatever.

She got back from the haircut and I asked her what yall talked about and she said "Nothing." I said "You mean you just sit there and look in the mirror and say nothing? and she said "Yes."

So, my wife is similar.

Sips, we hope yall get to stay, expecially since we will need yall this summer.

bigsip said...

Indeed, Brew. I shall heed your advice.

I have at least 4 really good leads on the line now and I intend to track them all as far as possible before I make a decision.

On the No Child Left Behind thing:

IF you think you'd like to be an English teacher, you should search your area for openings.

If you find an opening for an English teacher position, fill out and application, make your resume and cover letter beautiful, and call the school...

Ask them if the position is still open and give them your name. That's probably the best way to glean an interview.

As far as certification goes, you will need to contact or go to your county or city certification office and find out how to get your cert. In Alabama (and it should be the same or similar there under NCLB) you get 3 letters of reference, transcripts, and a couple of other docs and they pretty much GIVE you the cert if you have over 19 semester hours of upper-level (300-400 level) English credits.

Again, go online, check around and see about all the specs. If you're wiling to jump through the hoops, they'll more than likely be willing to employ you, Teacher Man!

JS said...

Oh, and Brew, dont forget... when you pay your taxes, you pay unemployment... I would apply for that right now. its your money anyway, and you ARE unemployed.

bigsip said...

Yes, yes...

OK, we definitely aren't moving now!

We can't go anywhere for at least 18 years...

and that's that.

Mat Brewster said...

18 years?? What?

Just applied for unemployment yesterday Jamison. I couldn't before because I was still getting a severance check.

I hate it when my hair stylist sits and gabs away. I'll take a little chit chat, but mostly I want to enjoy her fingers running through my hair.

Thanks for the info sip. I'm not sure I want to teach, but it is an interesting idea.

bigsip said...

I honestly think you'd be a great teacher, Brew.

You're smart, quick-witted, and interesting to listen to...

But, you have to make the right choice for you and your family.

Whoa! Your severence is out? I thought you still had some to ride on, man...

We'll pray on, my friend...

My hairstylist used to be a cute gal; the fingers in the hair and blowing in the ear was great, and guilt free... but it is a guy now. So not the same effect, but he and I can talk a long time about lots of stuff. His sisters kids go to the school I work at, he like to fish, 4 wheel, we are both balding in the same areas, etc...

At the same time, Luverne is a really great place to visit... in all honesty, I could see myself living there... but at the same time i can sort of see myself getting bored within a few years... no telling for me personally.
